Great staff, great service, excellent warranty.
I am a 20-year old male. I bought a used 1997 Honda Civic with 114,000 miles in September of 2013. It had chronic overheating problems. I got the impression the previous owner did not maintain the car well. When I preformed a compression test on it, it failed miserably. I felt like I made a bad decision. However, I feel that taking my used Civic to MAJI was no bad decision. I found the staff to be patient, knowledgeable, and committed to quality engine rebuilding. Their service was both convenient and accommodating. I found their prices to be reasonable and their warranty exceptional. The staff: Matt and Mario, two of the managers, were always willing to explain to me in painstaking detail about what the engine rebuild would consist of. When I first called Matt, I realized my engine had problems beyond my ability as a weekend mechanic. I had no idea what to expect from an engine rebuild. I really appreciated that Matt took the time to thoroughly outline what a basic engine rebuild would consist of. It gave me an excellent idea of what to expect from other engine rebuilders. When I finally made the decision to go to MAJI, I found that the staff was still very willing to "keep me in the loop." Mario answered countless questions from me. These questions ranged from "What kind of oil should I use?" to "Is it OK if I am going to be out of town for 6 weeks" to "Where's Matt?" to "Why in the world do you need to replace the radiator cap?" Mario was always willing to patiently and thoroughly answer all my questions. While Mario's Arabian accent was occasionally an obstacle for us, it was nothing his thorough knowledge of engines could not overcome. The service: What I liked about MAJI engines was that it was a place that exclusively did engine rebuilding, but still would let you drop off your car. Any other potential engine rebuilders I found did not do that. Places like Wayne's Engine Rebuilding and Ace Machine could rebuild my engine, but I had to remove it myself and deliver it to them. I couldn't do that. All the other places that would let me drop off the car for an engine rebuild did not specialize in engine repair. MAJI Engines was convenient because I could drop off my car, but trustworthy because they specialized in engine repair. Additionally, MAJI was willing to accommodate my circumstances. I was unable to pick up my car for 6 weeks after dropping it off. Because I gave plenty of warning, MAJI waived the storage fees. When I picked it up yesterday, it was washed, the engine bay was clean, and generally well-taken care of. The only downside was that they had changed my radio presets. And I liked most of their music choices anyway. Storage for 6-weeks and a car wash are a pretty good deal in exchange for listening to new music. The price/warranty: My original quote price was $1,300. However, both Matt and I were well aware that would be a miracle price. I expected there to be problems with the car. My end price ended up being $2,900. They cleaned every part, machined the head and block, honed the cylinders and replaced the engine head, pistons, clutch, flywheel, oil filter, water pump, spark plugs, gaskets and countless other parts. I consider $2,900 a deal. I knew my engine was in bad shape. Heck, I was relieved they didn't pull a dead animal out of there. Personally, I viewed it as a $2,900 new car. What I really liked about this rebuild was the 36,000 mile/ 3 year warranty. I wanted a dependable car, and MAJI engines strives to rebuild dependable engines. I take their warranty as proof of that. I could tell when they explained their warranty that they were genuine, hardworking people that took pride in their work. I might write a review at the end of the warranty. However, if I don't, then you can assume that I am continuing to appreciate my rebuilt engine. Bottom Line: If I had a friend who needed to fix up their engine, I would recommend MAJI. They come across as honest, helpful and skilled engine rebuilders. They take pride in their work. While I occasionally regret choosing to buy my used Honda Civic, I doubt I will ever regret choosing MAJI to rebuild its engine.
